Chakri was born in Kambalapalli Mahabubabad, Warangal district, Telangana. He had a brother and three sisters. He began his career with private music albums and went into Tollywood with Bachi Puri Jagannadh. Chakri continued to compose several successful albums for many successful films there after. In an illustrious career that spanned over 85 films, Chakri churned out many successful albums and even won the prestigious awards of Filmfare and Nandi. He presented many songwriters, singers and technicians Tollywood.

Chakri composed music for about 85 films. He began his career as a music director with the film directed by Puri Jagannadh Bachi. As a composer he has introduced many new talents (singers and lyricist). He won the award for best singer for Satyam in Filmfare and Nandi Tollywood price Simha.

It is generally considered to have hits in the month of January, which is considered Sankranthi (a Telugu festival) season in Andhra Pradesh. This is due to films such as Devadasu (2006), Desamuduru (2007), Krishna (2008) and Maska (2009) in consecutive years during Sankranti.
